SAP Plant Maintenance Overview
SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) is an ingredient of the SAP ERP that supports businesses help and maintains devices and systems. SAP PM Module aim is to plan and record one of the important assets of business equipment. It collects equipment’s data and helps to largest use them in order to improve their valuable life. However, this module’s abilities are not just restricted to equipment.
SAP PM integrates with other SAP modules like Materials Management (MM), Quality Management (QM), Production Planning (PP), Sales and Distribution (SD), Finance (FI), Controlling (CO), and Human Resources (HR).
SAP PM Overview
SAP PM is composed of ingredients for the three main activities that help companies to manage systems or equipment
• Inspection: This verifies the actual status of the systems or equipment.
Preventive maintenance: This helps to support ideal requirements for the system or equipment.
• Repair: For replacing the systems or equipment.
SAP PM allows you to control resources demands and perform some repairs automatically. You can use it to record the problems, plan labor and material activities, and record and compensation costs.
Applications of SAP Plant Maintenance
·         Feasible for organizations acting in fields of technical, service, IT, Petrochemical, transportation
·         Gather information for equipment’s, buildings, tools, etc. as well as work centers
·         Saving historical data regarding equipment’s location as well as its maintenance activities
·         Possibility of preventive planning based on time, condition and combinational
·         Managing Emergency, Corrective and Preventive Maintenance
·         Managing requests and reasons for breakdowns
·         To have the impact of repair costs on both Material and Asset Value
·         Differentiating between plan and actual time and material consumption for maintenance activities
·         Managing equipment codes vs. material codes of similar tools
·         Possibility of integrating production lines and their production rate, with equipment usage which leads to transition from time based planning to condition based planning
·         Managing criticism and complaints for guaranty/warranty related products
Advantages of SAP Plant Maintenance
·         Integration with Quality Control dept. by equipment’s calibration plan
·         Integration with Finance dept. by allotment and allocation of each PM activity cost (spent time, material, service) accurately to exact related receiving centers (production lines or official departments)
·         Integration with Finance dept. by allocation of budget to maintenance activities
·         Integration with Procurement dept. for purchasing plan of materials which are to be consumed in upcoming maintenance activities, instead of using safety stock which are assumed to be consumed for emergency activities
·         Integration with Procurement and Finance dept. by correlating external service procurement and maintenance activities (both data and accounting documents)
·         Integration with Production and Planning dept. for capacity planning of work centers based on maintenance activities downtime
·         Integration with Project Management dept. by assigning PM activities to WBS levels
·         Integration with Human Resource dept. for employee assignment to work centers and reporting based on each person’s actual work
·         Floating possibility of preventive maintenance cycles, especially when maintenance activities are postponed because of inability of stopping production lines for PM activities
·         Possibility of defining separate BOM from production BOM, in order to determine equipment related spare parts, while taking advantage of both BOMs
·         Online reporting of planned services based on different criteria (work centers, equipment categories, etc.)
·         Segregating outstanding PM activities from accomplished ones, based on equipment, defect reason, responsible person, activity type, etc.
·         Adjustability of predefined activity lists, based on equipment’s specific parameter (e.g. capacity, engine type)
·         Automatic update of maintenance plans based on modifications in related task lists
·         One-time definition of equipment’s activities regardless of different cycles, and have cycle-specific activities when it’s time to service
·         controlling correct work Start/Finish using systematic permits (LOTO technique) for high safety required processes
·         Possibility of performing on mobile devices (Equipment information review, repair requests processing, defect recording, order processing, measurement recording, time confirmation, material consumption recording), in addition to authorization restriction for field technicians
·         Time saving by shortening the process of complaints against warranty related materials/costs by means of condition definition for automatic processing of such complaints, in addition to connection with vendor/customer accounting documents
·         Breakdown Analysis using important PM indexes (Mean Time To Repair, Mean Time Between Repair)
·         Material consumption analysis for maintenance activities
